SANFORD, FL: More than 6,000 Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) students are enrolled to participate in free summer learning programs focusing on literacy and mathematics acceleration as well as exploratory camps in varying focus areas such as STEM, musical theater, robotics, 3D-art/sculpture, college preparation, leadership, and more. These activities, which required pre-registration, get started on May 31 with literacy programming at all elementary schools, and all other camps begin on June 5.

These opportunities, funded with multiple ESSER grants, are intended to support students and help address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic learning losses while also providing rich opportunities that engage students and help them explore topics that interest them.

"Our teachers, administrators, and leadership team are dedicated and relentless in efforts to bridge learning gaps created by the pandemic, as well as provide opportunities for student acceleration," explained SCPS Superintendent Serita D. Beamon. "We are grateful for the ESSER funds and the hard work of the educators, social workers, school administrators, bus drivers, dining services personnel, and custodians who will open campuses over the summer and provide students with additional opportunities to learn in a way that sparks interest and inspires creativity and achievement.

All camps provide free meals (breakfast and lunch) to all participants and transportation to those who qualify. To learn more about SCPS’ ARP ESSER III and instructional continuity plan, please visit https://www.scps.k12.fl.us/district/departments/federal-projects/esser.
